Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our friendle pen pal programme

  • Once you sign up, we match your child with a friendle pal and send out the first introduction letter. We may include fun activities, and gentle guidance to help keep the friendship flowing. Your child writes their reply on the template provided. Once complete an adult takes a photo of the letter and emails it to letters@friendle.co.nz and we take care of the rest.

  • Friendle Mail is designed for children aged roughly 5–12. Younger children may enjoy writing with a little support, while older children often love expressing themselves more independently. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to guide you on what might suit your child best.

  • Safety is at the heart of everything we do. All letters are sent through Friendle Mail. Children never share personal details directly with their letter pal. We review letters to ensure they’re safe, kind, and age-appropriate.

  • If a friendle pal becomes inactive, we will reach out to them. If they can't continue, we'll match your child with a new friendle pal right away to ensure the letters keep flowing.

  • Most children exchange letters once a month, giving them time to enjoy writing without pressure. We keep the rhythm steady and supportive, and families are welcome to adjust their pace if needed.

  • Each child gets their own friendle pal so they can build a connection that’s uniquely theirs. However, siblings are more than welcome to be added to the subscription. Many families find it becomes a shared activity they all look forward to.

  • Yes, there is an option to add an additional friendle pal to your subscription.
